With nearly 20 years of model aviation experience, including professionally operating drones in controlled airspace since 2021, Scout Works is your best resource for fast and effective certification in the world of Drone Flight.
Scout Works will prepare you to take the Transport Canada Small RPAS Pilot Certificate - Advanced online test.
Holding true to the TC 15263 standards, this course will take 3 days to complete as it emcompasses all aspects of drone flight.
With the Advanced Certificate Course, a Flight Review is also built into the course for when you have completed and passed the TC exam.
Changes to the drone regulations in Canada start April 1, 2025!
These changes bring in the possibility of flying Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) as well as sheltered operations and most importantly; MEDIUM DRONES!!! Drones weighing between 25kg and 150kg!! Of course there are more changes, but these are the most exciting!
Now, with all this being said, Scout Works is flipping it's entire Drone School Program on it's head and retooling it for these exciting new changes!
The Scout Works Drone School Programs are tailored to each individual class based on the experience of each student.
Young and just getting in to drones? No problem! We'll slow it down a bit and make sure you have the time to absorb all the details.
Seasoned commercial aviator? We've got you covered! We can turn some portions of the course into a refresher for you and get you on your way a little sooner!
And that's the best part of live instruction! You won't sit through a boring video presentation designed as a "one-size-fits-all-program" that makes you hit "next" at timed intervals, you get to ask any and all questions as they come to you!
The online tests required by Transport Canada are tough to say the least and the failure rate is over one third for the advanced test. This can be extremely discouraging to some and may be the reason they choose to stop pursuing this interest.
There is a massive amount of information on the web about flying drones, yet so much of it is irrelevant, anecdotal, out dated or outright wrong.
What you'll receive in these courses is accurate to the Canadian regulations, as set by Transport Canada and NAV Canada at the time of instruction.

I've flown in some pretty interesting locations over the years, but I have to say that flying a RoBird ON one of the runways at Edmonton International Airport was certainly a highlight!
Advanced Operations can be challenging, especially in conjested airspace. We needed to coordinate 2 VLOS RPAS pilots and one remote pilot (in a separate province) as well as a Visual Observer for each flight.
From off the shelf foamies, to complex custom builds, I've flown just about all there is to offer.
From low and slow to high and fast and everywhere in between.
Designing - Building - Testing - Flying
Innovation!
That's the name of the game!
